Nelson animal hospital receives top accreditation

Accredited hospitals achieve this qualification by choosing to be evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards.

The Selkirk Veterinary Hospital has achieved the highest level of practice accreditation following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). The local animal hospital earned AAHA accreditation after a rigorous review of the hospital’s practice protocols, medical equipment, facility and client service.

Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited.

Accredited hospitals achieve this qualification by choosing to be evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards that go above and beyond basic provincial regulations, ranging from patient care and pain management to staff training and advanced diagnostic services.

To maintain accredited status, the Selkirk Veterinary Hospital must continue to be evaluated regularly by AAHA.

The hospital was established in 1992 by Drs. Chris Chart and Birgit Vierheilig. Together with Drs Julie Caldwell and Christel Geldrich they provide care for cats, dogs, birds, exotics and small caged pets.
