Enerjet, a Canadian charter airline in operation since 2008, is selling seats for flights on a Boeing 737-700 Next-Generation aircraft for flights during the Christmas holiday season between Calgary and Kelowna.
The airline normally specializes in flying workers to and from northern Alberta, along with offering charters for domestic and international travel.
Darcy Morgan, vice-president of business development of Energet, said at times the charter airline business requires “positioning” flights. This means the aircraft would normally fly without travellers.
He said Enerjet has a small number of these flights over the holidays and decided to make them available to the public in a unique way.
Instead of the airline setting the seat fares, which are typically very high during the holiday season, Enerjet will provide travellers the chance to bid their own price for the seats on eBay.
Winning bidders also qualify for Enerjet’s “Best Fare Guarantee, which ensures the bidder never pays more than the lowest advertised price of the day. ”This adds something unique to the business of buying an airfare” said Morgan. “Travellers have the opportunity to bid for a seat at a discounted price. And the winning bidders can be sure they won’t miss out on a lower fare offered elsewhere. It is free of risk, full of fun, and a great deal for price-sensitive travellers.”
