Our Kitchen Corner on Birch Avenue is sporting a brand new red coat of paint and other new renovations thanks to a facade grant.
The Business Facade Improvement Program is a joint initiative of the District of 100 Mile House and the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT), and it’s designed to help businesses improve their facades (front exterior).
The grant allows up to 50 per cent reimbursement and can give up to $5,000 back to the businesses that are accepted for the grant.
Our Kitchen Corner is the latest business in 100 Mile to receive the grant, as the Community Employment Office and the 99 Mile Motel received grants and completed their renovations in 2015.
Our Kitchen Corner owner Janet Lilly applied to the program in April and says she is happy with the results.
“We already wanted to do the renovations, but this really gave us an incentive to do it. It’s a great way to freshen up Birch Avenue and it’s easy to apply for. I hope more people do it.”
District economic development and planning director Joanne Doddridge says she is excited about what the program has brought so far and she hopes other businesses in 100 Mile apply for the grant.
“This is a great program because it helps them attract customers and visitors to the commercial parts of town.”
The NDIT has given the District $20,000 to put towards renovating and improving local businesses on the Highway 97 core and Birch Avenue.
