New owners for Blind Bay coffee shop

A shared appreciation for quality was what brought partners Andrea Blume and Debra Pugsley together in operating the Steamers Coffee Co.

A shared appreciation for quality with exceptional customer service was what brought partners Andrea Blume and Debra Pugsley together in operating the Steamers Coffee Co. in Blind Bay. The store reopened with the new proprietors March 1.

There are many coffees to choose from, prepared or bagged beans to take home. A good variety of teas, many of which are local product; Blume and Pugsley support local suppliers wherever they can.

Steamers also supports fair-trade certification on imported product, aware of the importance on impact to global cizitens.

One of the selections available is the Ethical Bean Lush, a medium dark roast made famous by Oprah Winfrey as one of her ‘favourite things’ during her Christmas programming.

Nostalgic Shuswap posters line the walls, tastefully decorating the well lit space, comfortable. The posters are for purchase, with custom versions available.

Blume and Pugsley plan to hire students to staff Steamers through the summer months. An outdoor seating area is in the plans as is a specialty ice cream service.

There are lunch and breakfast options in addition to some tempting pastries. Each day a different breakfast special is offered with three choices, each for under $5. There are three lunch choices as well, again each for under $5. Steamers Coffee Co. is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
