Thursday (Feb. 25) is opening day for two new Walmart Supercentre stores in the Surrey-Delta area.

Both stores are built from the ashes of the failed Target experiment in Canada, in locations previously occupied by that American big-box retailer.

The Walmart store in North Delta is located at Scottsdale Centre, on 120th Street near 72nd Avenue. The retail space is approximately 114,000 square feet, according to Felicia Fefer, Walmart Canada’s manager of marketing, public relations and social media.

The company’s latest store in Surrey, located at Central City Shopping Centre, is 147,000 square feet in size.

Grand-opening festivities at both stores will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with live music and sampling, Fefer told the Now on Monday.

In January, Walmart Canada announced the opening of 15 new Supercentre stores.

In total, the retail giant now boasts 400 stores in Canada, a number that includes 312 Supercentre stores and 88 discount stores.
