After a relatively dry summer, the recent assault of rain has been a bit of a shock to the system. Let’s hope everyone is safe and was able to chill over the weekend and catch up on your reading or watching movies.
Some exciting events are coming up in the next couple of weeks on the West Shore. Tonight (Oct. 21), the Metchosin Golf Course welcomes back the Shorty Parker Band for your dancing pleasure for the latest Bandwagon Music Night. The music is scheduled from 7 until 9:15 p.m., with the bar opening at 5:30. The $5 admission donation goes to the musicians.
This Saturday, Westshore Sunrise Rotary presents the annual Hoop-Fest fundraiser at Royal Bay secondary in Colwood from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Members of the community are invited to “Toss a Ball or “Pledge a Toss” for $2. For every $20 pledged you will be entered into a draw for tickets to see Mamma Mia. For more information please contact lsolson@shaw.ca or visit westshoresunriserotary.ca.
Also on Oct. 22 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Market on Millstream is hosting a Rotary Club fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the Pacific Centre For Family Services Association.
At the same time, same place in Millstream Village, the store will celebrate its great partnership with the Westshore Rebels junior football team and help the club raise funds needed to host the B.C. Football Conference playoffs. Players will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win $1,800 worth of groceries at the Market.
The Rebels will be on hand helping kids carve pumpkins, be a part of the hotdog fundraiser and to help serve up free hot chocolate compliments of Serious Coffee. This promises to be a great community event, but get there early while quantities last.
The WestShore Chamber of Commerce’s Best of the West Shore Awards will be presented during a sold-out gala at Olympic View Golf Club on Oct. 26. Watch your Gazette on Oct. 28 for a special feature section containing this year’s winners, in categories ranging from Best Place for Breakfast to Best Local Sports Team, and other interesting stories.
