Farmers markets are open, the weather’s getting warmer and it feels as if summer is around the corner.
The Goldstream Farmers Market is now open Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will be a weekend staple through to Oct. 15 at Veterans Memorial Park. The majority of items are homemade, handmade or home-grown. Enjoy live music in the bandstand, food trucks, the water park and playground for the kids and a grassy picnic area.
This Saturday (May 21), the West Shore Lions Club is hosting the Decades of Rock fundraising dance at the Langford Legion, 761 Station Ave. Starting at 8:30 p.m., Younger Than Yesterday, Free Ride and Rock of Ages will play three sets of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s danceable rock’n’roll. Advance tickets are $18 and are available at the Legion, or at Long & McQuade, 756 Hillside Ave. Tickets at the door are $25. Doors open at 6:30.
Also this Saturday, Urban Ground Market at 131 Presley Pl., off Six Mile Road in View Royal, hosts its grand opening. Visitors are invited to enjoy samples and meet their friendly, knowledgable staff and check out their Edible Forest Garden installation.
On Sunday (May 22), City Centre Park celebrates its 10-year anniversary with an event from noon to 4 p.m. There will be many family activities to enjoy, including face painting, a bouncy castle, a clown and musical entertainment. “This promises to be a great day for the kids,” says park operator Gerry St. Cyr.
Celebrate Victoria Day with your family back at Veterans Memorial Park. Inflatables, games and prizes for the kids, crafts, face painting, hamburgers/hot dogs, tea/lemonade, and a live jazz band will be on hand. This free event is a gift from Canvas Church to our community; find them online at canvaschurch.ca.
On May 29 the 26th annual Model Railway Show happens at the Curling Rink at the Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre. There will be hourly door prizes, operating model railroads and commercial and individual sales and displays. For more information contact Ted Alexis at 250-595-4070.
