Out and about: West Shore getting into the spirit of the season

December is packed with holiday events that feature a number of West Shore businesses

Tomorrow is the first day of December and all around we can see the signs of the upcoming Christmas season.

New and exciting on the Westshore is the arrival of Sizzling Tandoor opposite the Westshore Town Centre beside Original Joe’s and Cob’s bread. They are open for lunch and dinner and their buffet is full of great choices. This is the third location for Gurinder and Narpinder Bawa, who are familiar faces in the Greater Victoria area. So whether you are stopping by for drinks and appies after work, need to book an office lunch party or just want to enjoy a lively family dinner, be sure to stop by and say hello.

This Saturday (Dec 3) the 18th annual IEOA Truck Light Convoy and Food Drive will take place. The convoy will start at Ogden Point at approximately 5:45 p.m. and finish up at Western Speedway at approximately 8:30. This is a spectacular event and tons of fun for all ages, so be sure to come out and wave on the drivers.

Also on Dec. 3, the City of Langford Light-up and Craft Fair takes place from 5 until 7:45 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. There will be free hot dogs and hot chocolate while supplies last.

Also in Langford, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4 you can skate with Santa at City Centre Park/Westhills Arena on Langford Parkway. This is a free event with Santa visiting from 3:15 until 4:15.

The Colwood Christmas light up activities will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 between 6 and 8 p.m. at Colwood City Hall, 3300 Wishart Rd. Bitez Sandwich Bar will provide hot chocolate, hot dogs will be offered by Red Barn Market and Royal Bay Bakery will offer up other tasty treats.

The evening includes an arts and crafts sale and fun activities for the kids, led by volunteers from Westshore Parks and Recreation, in advance of Santa’s arrival by fire truck. There will also be a local school choir performance.

West Shore branches of the Greater Victoria Public Library are hosting a Cookies and Crafts Open House on Dec. 10 from 2 until 4 p.m. Be sure and drop by your local branch for free festive refreshments and crafts for kids.

And the fourth annual Metchosin Light Up Parade will take place on Dec. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. This is also a free family event, starting at the fire hall.
