The City of Pitt Meadows has hired an environmental stewardship officer.
Susanne Sloboda begins her new job on Monday, April 18.
The role was created with support from council to take an active role in educational, inspection and enforcement work related to environmental protection in the community.
“This position was a high priority for council throughout the business planning process last year,” said Mayor John Becker. “We will look to Ms. Sloboda to help us define our environmental objectives, develop policies and advise on outreach and education strategies in the community to move forward.”
The environmental stewardship officer will work closely with developers, community groups, residents and government agencies to provide information and interpretations of applicable bylaws, policies and programs related to land development projects and municipal environment services.”
The position will also involve conducting environmental reviews of development applications, working with soil deposit and extraction permit applications, conducting site inspections, investigating environment complaints and assisting with enforcing relevant bylaws.
Sloboda comes to the city with an extensive background in the environmental consulting sector, with a long list of municipal sector clients with whom she has done work of a similar nature.
She has an associate of environmental studies degree and a habitat restoration advanced certification, both from Douglas College.
