Revelstoke Review editor in excellent company

Chamber honours best in community at annual Business Excellence Awards event.

There’s a feeling of pride at the Revelstoke Review office after Saturday’s Business Excellence Awards, where editor Alex Cooper was named the community’s employee of the year.

The 23rd annual Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce business awards gala took place on Nov. 5 at the community centre, where an audience of 330 people cheered on this year’s 14 recipients, including Cooper.

“He’s very dedicated and he puts in a lot of hours and it’s very difficult being a one-person newsroom, covering court and features and everything in between,” said Review publisher Mavis Cann of Cooper. “He’s very sensitive to people’s feelings and needs and he does a good job.”

Cooper is in the company of fellow 2016 Business Excellence Awards winners: The Revelstoke Railway Museum and Museum Store tourism and attractions excellence; Coast Hillcrest Resort Hotel Ltd. accommodations excellence; Craft Bierhaus food service excellence; Downie Timber & Selkirk Cedar industrial and manufacturing excellence; Pharmasave retail and service excellence; McDonald’s Restaurant youth employer award; Starbucks best new or renovated building design; Pulse Boot Fitting Inc./Kai Palkeinen and Kelly Hutchinson entrepreneurial excellence; Wandering Wheels home-based business excellence; Jan Morehouse community support excellence; Nicole Cherlet of Big Mountain Kitchen and Linen business person of the year; Le Marché Gourmet business of the year; and the Pipe Mountain Coaster/Revelstoke Mountain Resort community innovation excellence.

Winners were chosen by an independent selection committee, which reviews all information provided by the community through a nomination process.

Of the last award, a new one for the event, president Randy Driediger emphasized the positive impact RMR’s Pipe Mountain Coaster has had on the community.

“I don’t think anyone could argue this one single attraction contributed in many ways to the community,” said Driediger.

The chamber congratulates all winners and is grateful for the sponsorship and support that helped make the event possible.
