Mill Tower Developments held a business appreciation night on Thursday, at the redesigned mill building on Gladys Avenue.
The original mill was completed in 1968, and has been a distinctive landmark in Abbotsford. The heritage building has now been transformed into a five-storey modern office tower.
The redevelopment began in 2005, and the building is now home to 10 businesses. The building is 60 per cent occupied and seeking tenants.
Mayor Bruce Banman spoke at the event, saying the redesign of the historic building is a great example of Abbotsford’s ongoing revitalization. He said the tower is one of the most amazing reuses of a building in Abbotsford.
“It’s exciting to see the changes that took place in this tower… it builds on Abbotsford’s rich character.”
The Mill Tower is located at 34077 Gladys Ave, next to an 8.5-acre parcel that has been purchased by the Mennonite Centre Committee British Columbia (MCC BC).
The location will house the MCC Thrift Shops, a home office, local programs, the Material Resource Centre, Ten Thousand Villages, a cafe and more.
Banman said these developments are great examples of the downtown core’s ongoing revitalization.
