The Canadian-owned and operated hotel corporation raised the money through the charity  Gift of Giving by ensuring that all 42 of its locations participated in the initiative, which ran from Nov. 15 to Jan. 15.

For the campaign, $1 from every reservation made under the Gift of Giving rate was donated to Kids Help Phone, a free, professional and anonymous online and phone counselling service for young people. All donations matched by Sandman.

“We are extremely pleased with the results from the campaign and feel that we certainly made the right choice when we partnered with Kids Help Phone,” says Salim Kassam, vice-president of marketing for Sandman. “Just seeing how much support they provide to youth in crisis is remarkable and inspiring.”
