SAS dry grad to feature used-car giveaway

The stakes will be higher than normal for a prize draw at Salmon Arm Secondary’s 2016 dry grad on Friday, June 24

The stakes will be higher than normal for a prize draw at Salmon Arm Secondary’s 2016 dry grad on Friday, June 24. One lucky SAS graduate will drive away with a used car thanks to Jacobson Ford who donated the vehicle. The make and model of the car will remain a surprise until the night of the event, said dry grad organizer Claire Rithaler, who secured the car from the Salmon Arm dealership with the help of co-chair Char Johnson .

This is the first time a car will be in the prize mix at a the dry grad, said Rithaler, noting the idea for the car giveaway was borrowed from schools on the Lower Mainland where it was enthusiastically endorsed.

The goal of the car giveaway, which will take place at 4 a.m., is to keep students at the event all night, Rithaler said. Only students present for the draw will be eligible to win the car.

Three students’ names will be drawn at the end of the evening and each will be given a key, only one of which will start the car.

The other two students will receive consolation prizes.

Along with the car giveaway, this year’s dry grad will feature several draws and door prizes. A DJ and dance, a mock-casino where students can win monopoly money for a silent auction and a loonie swim at the SASCU Rec Centre from 1 to 3 a.m. will also entertain students at the event.
