Scizzor Sisters, an all-new hair salon, has opened in Invermere at 519 13th Street, across the street from Sears.
The new salon is owned and operated by sisters Meka and Britt Jensen, who also do hairstyling at the business alongside Christine Johansen.
Meka has been styling hair for six years, and Britt has been hairstyling for four. Johansen has 26 years of experience under her belt.
“Britt and Meka had dreams of opening a salon,” explained Johansen. “So when it came to light, I was asked to join them.”
The three ladies were all drawn to hairstyling for similar reasons.
“It’s always different, there’s always something new,” said Meka. “You get to meet people and make them feel good and wonderful, and you get to play with hair all day.”
The new salon has a very modern, upbeat and contemporary vibe, according to Johansen, but also has a casual attitude, added Meka.
In addition to all things hair, the salon also offers facial waxing, ear piercing and hair extension services.
“It’s been crazy, the feedback has been really good,” said Johansen. Since the salon opened its doors on June 6 “we’ve already had to order more business cards, it’s been very positive.”
As for the name of the salon, while Meka and Britt are sisters, Meka stresses that it’s an emphasis on the team work the ladies exude that inspired the title.
The Scizzor Sisters team is still hoping to hold a grand opening at a later date, and perhaps other special events throughout the year, such as a mother and daughter day.
Scizzor Sisters is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
