Second electronic public meeting for Official Community Plan update Feb. 1

The first virtual public meeting was scheduled for Nov. 18

The Village of Keremeos has scheduled an electronic public hearing on Feb. 1 to discuss the proposed changes to the Official Community Plan and Zoning bylaws.

Instructions on how to participate in an electronic public hearing are available on the village’s website at keremeos.ca.

This will be the second public meeting, following the first on Nov. 18, 2020.

No letter, report or representation from the public will be received by council and village staff for consideration after the conclusion of the public hearing.

The meeting is to provide information on the proposed changes to the plans, and to answer questions and gather feedback from the community.

The draft OCP will include updates based on the 2016 census, current trends and land availability, a review of the Agricultural Land Reserve boundaries, floodplain regulations and other considerations.

The update is seeking, amongst other things, to ensure that these bylaws are clear, consistent and work together to further the long-term goals and objectives of the community.

The current OCP was adopted in 2013, while the Zoning Bylaw was adopted in 2011. Good practice for municipalities is considered to include a review and update of the OCP every seven to 10 years.

Additional information regarding this update of the OCP and Zoning Bylaws, including copies of the draft bylaws, comparison tables and background reports, can be found at the Village’s website at www.keremeos.ca, then going to Services → Keremeos OCP and Zoning Bylaw Review.

Residents can also inspect a copy of the proposed Bylaws, and supporting documentation at the Village Office at 702-4th Street, Keremeos, BC from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday to Friday except on statutory holidays.
