Social Enterprise Award – 2015 Chamber Award Nominees

New in 2015 is an award category for Social Enterprise focusing on labour market development and social innovation within the not for profit sector, creating opportunities for employment and new revenue streams for not for profit organizations.

Campbell River Gymnastics Association

Campbell River Gymnastics Association is devoted to providing affordable gymnastics based fitness in a positive healthy environment for children and adults of all ages. Our full range of classes is geared towards many different fitness levels. These include our recreational programs from ages 18 months to adult, pre-competitive and competitive groups, high school gymnastics, and school group lessons, classes for ski club, dance, swim club, and birthday parties. We also offer private sessions and instruction for special needs individuals or groups. Our coaches are trained, certified and experienced, they understand basics and progressions of movement, at the same time as allowing individual athletes to explore their own potential. Our recreational program has consistently had over 300 participants per session and our competitive program has an average of 85 athletes. Fitness, fun, fair play, and team spirit are our key values and we celebrate and support the continuing development and achievements of all our athletes.

 

Campbell River Hospice Society Thrift Store “Second to None”

CR Hospice Society aims to provide individuals in the communities we serve, the entire North Island, Quadra and Cortez Islands, with tangible support through and after end of life experiences. We provide trained volunteers to meet people where they need it most, in their homes, long-term care facilities and in the hospitals. We work closely together with many service providers such as Island Health to identify the needs in our communities and fill those gaps in relation to hospice, palliative care. To continue to provide services to community members free of charge, we had to look at ways to become self-sustainable, thus the creation of our Campbell River Hospice Society Thrift Store – “Second to None”.

Second to None is a group of 45 eager volunteers with great ideas headed by Tiffany Dirks our Store Manager. We provide friendly, warm, receptive and welcoming customer service to our donors and customers. This bright welcoming environment has created increased awareness and positive relations with community members and CR Hospice Society.

 

North Vancouver Island Aboriginal Training Society

North Vancouver Island Aboriginal Training Society (NVIATS) is a community based organization that had been mandated to deliver the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Agreement.

Our Mission: To assist all Aboriginal people to achieve self-sufficiency by endeavoring to facilitate the highest quality training and employment opportunities and services in the North Vancouver Island Region.

 

Skyline Productions Confidential Paper Shredding/File Safe (Campbell River and District Association for Community Living)

Skyline Productions is proudly owned and operated by the Campbell River and District Association for Community Living. For over 35 years CRADACL has provided employment opportunities to our community members who have intellectual disabilities. In the early 90’s, CRADACL made the transformation from a sheltered workshop to offering employment based on the model of real pay for real work. We embraced the philosophy that everyone has gifts and talents that can be cultivated. Over the past 25 years Skyline has grown to include 6 businesses that offers employment to 28 people. some are seasonal and some are year round. Currently we run 7 enterprises, with the most well know being Skyline Productions
