Spotlight on Business

Lake Cowichan & District's Chamber of Commerce spotlight some Lake Cowichan businesses

Each month the Chamber will spotlight three business members.

Mom’s B&B is located at 9750 Miracle Way in Youbou. Owned by Tara Daly, this B&B has been operating for 13 years. Situated on the “sunny side” of Cowichan Lake, Mom’s B&B provides for a fantastic setting. Tara’s only employee is her cat, Licorice, who helps her make her guests comfortable. Tara has had as many as 14 guests at one time, however, her normal capacity for her two available rooms is six guests. Tara can, in a pinch, provide accommodations for sports teams, weddings and other large groups. She is a firm believer that “going the extra mile” provides her guests with a wonderful experience that lasts a lifetime.

Corrie Helliwell owns and operates Copper Lane which is located at 105 South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan. Copper Lane offers men’s and women’s clothing, along with footwear, clothing accessories, purses and home décor. It is a real boutique. Corrie has been in business for five years. She currently employs two part-time students. Corrie is also a firm believer in providing exceptional customer service and says if she does not have what the customer is looking for in her shop, she will do her best to locate the item elsewhere.

The Print Spot, located at 108 A South Shore Road, is owned and operated by Lillian Laird. Lillian has been in business for two-and-a-half years. Besides printing services, the Print Spot offers computer repair, graphic and design as well as administrative office services. When asked why she started her own business she replied, “After 57 job interviews in one year, 48 second interviews and no offer of a job from any of them, it was time.”

When she went to a bank to acquire some start-up money, she was denied. The reason? She was attempting to start a printing business in Lake Cowichan. Lillian is smiling now — the bank missed out. Lillian gets her inspiration and determination from her Mom, Anna, who was a long time entrepreneur herself. Lillian was declared a winner of the prestigious Young Entrepreneur award at this year’s Black Tie Awards in Duncan. Congratulations from all of us at the Chamber. The Print Spot’s motto is “where creativity meets possibility.”
