'Stuff the Bus' campaign helping students in need

Last week Staples stores in Surrey kicked off their annual Staples for Students “Stuff the Bus” campaign, which aims to fill more than 1,000 backpacks with school supplies for underprivileged children.

School supplies are a must-have for Canadian kids, but many parents can’t afford to buy basic supplies. The Surrey School District is the largest in B.C., with more than 120 schools and 70,000 students.

Throughout the summer, three Surrey Staples stores fundraise for the school supply drive in hopes of making a difference to students at the beginning of the school year.

The Stuff the Bus campaign has raised over $95,000 in the last five years, putting school supplies in the hands of students who need them the most.

In addition, this year a new partnership with the TELUS Community Ambassadors has greatly helped by donating 1,000 backpacks to the cause.

“Our goal this year is to raise $130,000 to help ensure no child goes without the necessary school supplies.” said Richard Foster, regional vice president of Staples Canada.

Funds or school supplies can be donated at any of these Staples locations: 3037 152 St.; 10136 King George Blvd.; or 17433 56 Ave.
