Visit Oak Bay Village this Saturday, May 14, for the third annual Talk to an Expert Day.
A celebration of local expertise and the knowledgeable people working in the community, residents and visitors are invited to sample seasonal flavours, join a workshop and learn more from Oak Bay Village merchants and community groups.
Hosted by the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association, this year offers more hands-on and interactive activities and no experience is necessary to try everything from yoga to painting to jewellery making and more.
“We often hear in Oak Bay Village how much people enjoy shopping at local businesses where they can ask questions, get to know the business owner and make connections with people. Talk to an Expert Day celebrates that and highlights the range of expertise offered in Oak Bay Village,” says Elizabeth Smith, president of the Oak Bay BIA. “We think the best way to celebrate that is to invite the community to come by to enjoy our hospitality, ask questions, meet people and try new things.”
Artists will set up through the day, while workshops include a free yoga class, collage making and abstract painting, tea tastings and olive oil tastings. Learn about skin care techniques, sun safety, emergency preparedness and safety, and building wealth in the real estate market.
Oak Bay Kiwanis hosts their popular hot dog barbecue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Avenue, while the village’s magician-in-residence, Paul Kilshaw, will demonstrate beginner magic tricks and make balloon flowers.
From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. visit Theatre SKAM’s Pop-Up Theatre, a micro theatre on the back of a truck presenting short, fast, free shows suitable for all ages. The Oak Bay Library also brings its bikemobile to the Avenue – make a button, get a new library card and check out library items.
