Sunrise Ford is steering the way toward a new lunch kitchen for 100 Mile House Elementary School.
Sunrise Ford owner Leon Chrétien says the Drive One 4 UR School campaign revs up at the South Cariboo Community Fall Fair to fundraise for the local school’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
Through a Ford of Canada program, a $25 donation will be made to the PAC for each driver (with valid driver’s licence) per civic address who test drives a car, truck or SUV for five minutes at the fall fair.
“Our goal is we’re hoping to raise $7,500 from 300 test drives. No one will try to sell to you and no one will call you later.”
The vehicles will be available on Aug. 10-11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the South Cariboo Rec. Centre parking lot.
It’s an easy way to help many local children with just a little bit of your time, Chrétien says, adding he needs people to take a vehicle for a quick spin in order to justify to Ford of Canada why the big donations went to the school.
He has held similar events in the past and Chrétien says the difficulty with fundraising of this nature is to get people to trust that there really isn’t any hitch.
“We absolutely will not call anyone afterward. This is about being a good corporate citizen.”
Noting his children attend the school, Chrétien says he wants to help the PAC install a place to prepare fresh food to benefit all the students.
“The school really needs a kitchen for cold lunches and snacks, so we need people to not be afraid and care enough to test drive a car.”
