The Shire condominium development is taking a greener approach to building and living in Saanich seriously. The 90-unit project at 1016 Inverness Rd., at the corner of Quadra Street, is being built to meet the requirements for Built Green Gold standards, said Chuck Meagher, a realtor with Century 21 Queenswood Realty.
The Shire includes Buildings A and C, which are five storeys, with 25 and 41 units, and Building B with 34 units in six storeys.
Although the approximately $30 million project is still in the framing stage, Building A has sold out and Building B is 40 per cent sold, Meagher said.
“It’s a great location, just a 10-minute stroll to Mayfair shopping centre. There’s a Thrifty Foods nearby and it’s just a short commute to downtown,” he added.
Buyers will receive two one-year BC Transit passes for each unit in the Shire, which has a bus stop covering major routes right outside, Meagher said.
The condos feature quartz countertops and nine-foot ceilings, while parking for all three buildings is underground.
One bedroom condos start at $244,000, while prices for two-bedroom units begin at $298,000.
Meagher expects the project will be completed by May of next year.
The sales office is open Thursday to Sunday from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Built Green standards prioritize energy efficiency, provide healthier indoor air and preserve natural resources while reducing the footprint and cost of living. Increased durability and quality are some of the hallmarks of Built Green projects, which are certified by a third party.
The program, which supports the use of lumber, gives builders a significant edge by staying on top of changes to the building code, and the costs of participating in the program are minimal. Built Green certified projects save money in the long and short terms and increase market and resale value.
