Jennifer Hermann loves to cook and now she has found a way to combine her compassion and provide a service to local seniors. Alberni Meals & Homemaking Services will provide meals, homemaking, grocery shopping,  even pet care and yard clean up for seniors needing an extra hand.

“Over the years I have noticed a need in this area, says Hermann.  “I want to take care of not only the elderly but also their pets.

“I work closely with a registered dietitian and she gives me any information that I may be lacking in. She will also work with the client if referred by me,” says Hermann.

Saasin Gifts is now open around the corner at Carmoor Block. Lily Diotte, owner of Swale Rock Café, observed the interest of her customers in a small selection of gift items in the restaurant and decided to expand the selection into the nearby gift shop. Lily has assembled a collection of gifts, apparel and home accessories designed by BC’s First Nations artists, many of them from Vancouver Island. New items are arriving every week, just in time for holiday gift giving.  Saasin means hummingbird in the Nuu-chah-nulth language.

Realtor Maureen Mackenzie recently made a generous donation to Ty Watson House for some “essentials” the hospice requires.

Their current list of ongoing needs include: butter, cheddar cheese, apple juice, beef and chicken broth, ground coffee, sugar, vanilla, large & medium Ziploc freezer bags, kitchen garbage bags 34L, Kleenex, paper towels, laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher detergent pods.

Save-On-Foods will hold a ladies night on Dec 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with raffle proceeds to the Salvation Army.

The evening will include home-based business vendors, raffles for Bulldogs jersey and gift baskets, entertainment, hot drinks by donation to the ADSS Breakfast Club and more. And shoppers can earn extra Save-On-More points for shopping that day as well.
