The Southern Interior Construction Association has been awarded a $400,000 contract from the Ministry of Jobs for a project-based training program.

SICA will deliver the ITA road builders and heavy construction course along with the heavy equipment operator course targeting aboriginal youth in the Okanagan.

“This funding provides an opportunity to engage a segment of our population that often faces employment challenges,” said Bill Everitt, SICA chief operating officer.

The training program is roughly 16 weeks and includes theory, hands-on training and soft skills related to job searches increasing the participants’ likelihood of employment.
