UBCO's faculty of management to host career fair

It’s a question many university students hear time and again: “So, what do you want to be when you get out of school?”

And while most in UBC’s Faculty of Management have a strong idea that they will pursue a business career, twice a year the faculty hosts Career Days to help students sort out their future. The fall career event takes place Thursday, Sept. 19, with the goal of providing local, national, and international organizations the chance to showcase opportunities particularly to students graduating next spring.

The daytime career exhibition runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a number of exhibits and displays from community businesses and industry partners. There are several events during the day, including 20-minute career talks sponsored by the Okanagan Young Professionals, sessions on How to Network, a drop-in résumé review, and workshops on how to craft your résumé and cover letter. The daytime events take place in the Engineering, Management, Education (EME) foyer and are free and open to the public and all students.

To provide the opportunity for even more local Okanagan organizations to engage with students, there is also an evening event. Starting at 5 p.m., the Speed Networking and Social takes place on campus, providing an open opportunity for local organizations and students to engage, network, and build connections.

For this event only, student tickets are $10, and community tickets are $50 for two members of the same organization. Pre-registration is required: www.ubcspeednetworkingandsocial2013.eventbrite.com
