Two Eagles Lodge in Union Bay is a finalist for the 2016 Vancouver Island Business Excellence Award for the hospitality/tourism industry.

There are 20 different industries to be honored at the Jan. 21 ceremony in Nanaimo.

“We are so honored to not only be nominated, but to know the judges find us worthy of being a finalist, especially since there are so many tourism and hospitality businesses on the Island…even internationally acclaimed ones like the Empress,” said Steve Touhey, co-owner along with his wife Carolyn.

This is the 16th year for the awards program.

Two Eagles, a bed and breakfast/vacation rental and event venue in south Union Bay, won a VI Business Excellence award in 2011. It is also the recipient of two Vancouver Island Better Business Bureau Torch Awards and several awards from the Comox Valley Small Business Association, including two years as Comox Valley Ambassadors of the Year.

Last year, the lodge was inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for earning TripAdvisor’s certificates of excellence for five consecutive years, an accomplishment for maintaining a five-star rating each year.

The Touheys, who came to the island from Maryland through a provincial immigration program for business development, built the lodge in 2006. Since then, they have become active in the community — supporting non-profits through donations and service on boards of directors. The couple became citizens in 2013, calling Vancouver Island their “forever home.”

In addition to entertaining and caring for guests at Two Eagles, they also host various events at their home/business, including weddings, house concerts, parties for area businesses or groups, weddings and retreats.
