Waddy's Restaurant closes after 38 years of business in Vernon.

After being in business for 38 years, Ken Wadsworth and sons will be closing the doors to Waddy’s Family Restaurant today.

Last week, the Wadsworth family gathered under the Waddy Man statue to say goodbye and thank you for a business that has employed many family members since 1974. The Wadsworths have received messages of gratitude for the good meals and memories at the restaurant.

Ken Sr. and his wife Ruth (deceased in 2008), started the restaurant as a Smitty’s franchise in 1974. In 1984, they turned it into the Waddy’s Family Restaurant.

Their four sons – Dave, Rick, Jeff and Mark – plus a number of grandchildren have worked in the restaurant, doing everything from cooking to waitressing to bussing dishes.

The family are appreciative of the other long-standing staff members.

The sons took over the restaurant when Ken  built Hillview Golf course with partner Jim Atmore in 1986. Ken worked at that business until 2003 when he sold his stake to the Atmores.
