What will be in the federal budget for 2016? Infrastructure spending, small business tax breaks, climate action, housing – this will be a stimulus budget incurring deficits to address a variety of needs highlighted in the fall election Liberal platform.
The Surrey Board of Trade will be hosting a lunch with business and community leaders to discuss what the budget means to Surrey.
“When Finance Minister Bill Morneau spoke at our business leaders breakfast in January,” said CEO Anita Huberman, “he emphasized infrastructure investments would be a priority. Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner and I pointed out how light rail transit would benefit Surrey’s economy and he was very receptive.”
Morneau travelled across Canada in early January on a fact-finding mission. The Surrey Board of Trade’s breakfast was his only public appearance in B.C. More than 350 business leaders were in attendance.
The lunch on Wednesday, March 23 will feature an intimate dialogue with Ken Peacock, chief economist of the Business Council of B.C., and Surrey Coun. Tom Gill, chair of Surrey’s Finance Committee, as they break down the budget for Surrey’s business and community leaders.
What investments will be made for B.C.? For Surrey? How can businesses take advantage of the budget’s stimulus strategies? These questions and more will be discussed at the lunch event.
The event is Wednesday, March 23 at Eaglequest Golf Course, 7778 152 St. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., with the dialogue to follow from 12-1:30 p.m.
