Let me tell ya about two new eateries in Langley.
The first is already here. Congrats to the team at Trading Post Brewing. First they opened their brewery and tasting room (just next door to the Langley Advance offices) on 64th Avenue back in February, and proving popular with locals and visitors alike who love their beer. The place is typically bustling, especially on the weekends.
Well, now they’ve opened an eatery in the centre of Fort Langley.
Situated at the corner of 96th Avenue and Glover Road (where the former pub was), the Trading Post Taphouse & Eatery offers beer and food. They officially opened up near the beginning of June.
If the success of the Willowbrook facility is any indication, the restaurant is also likely to become a favourite with locals and tourists alike – complete with a patio and appropriately themed rustic decor.
“It is different than most restaurants because we feature our fantastic beer to pair with our food.
We have a long bar that is central to the indoor space that has 12 taps providing a wide variety of our hand crafted locally made delicious craft beer made by our legendary brewer Tony Dewald,” said co-founder Paul Verhoeff.
The Trading Post’s (http://tradingpostbrewing.com/) mantra, ‘Tap into the Local’, is embedded in everything they do, Verhoeff said.
From using local ingredients to partnering with local businesses for special projects, the brewery and eatery want customers to get the full local experience.
“The historic significance of Fort Langley is celebrated in everything we are, our historic Hudson Bay replica trading post building, our decor, our branding, telling the stories of Fort Langley and the welcoming little town that has so much to offer locals as well as tourists and a destination for people from central Langley and the entire Lower Mainland region,” he said.

Mexican flavour comes to bypass
And coming soon to the Langley Bypass is a U.S.-based Mexican grill called Chipotle.
This restaurant is going to join the new lineup of new shops in Langley City Square, that include Bed Bath and Beyond, BuyBuy Baby, and Sketcher – which is already been open for some time at the front end – closes to the Langley Bypass.
I’m told Chipotle’s just took the space on Monday, so they are a few months away from opening, but we’ve asked for more details.
Langley Rams host meetup
This afternoon, actually it’s going on right now, the Langley Rams Football Club is hosting the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Open Late For Business.
This is a rather unique event is being held on the football field, at McLeod Park Stadium (58th Avenue and 214th Street), from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today.
It’s a networking opportunity, and thanks to the pause in the rain, it’s hopefully a nice outdoor event and a great chance to mix and mingle with other business owners and operators, asd well as the Rams players and coaches.
Maybe there will be an inside scoop offered on the 2016 season, and each guest will received a free admission card to the Aug. 13 Family Fun Night home game.
As way of background, the Rams program has provided an avenue for young men of our community to channel their energies in a positive manner for more than 65 years.
The Rams were the 2014 BCFC champions, and pretty excited about the 2016 season with the appointment of Khari Joseph to the position of head coach and the addition of Shawn Olson, one of the greatest Rams players of all time, as offensive coordinator.
I’m told the Rams are committed to fielding a team that will be a Cullen Cup and national champion contenders again in 2016. We’ll see.

Cheap short stack coming
Sticking to the subject of food, which you know I love, let me tell you about where to get some cheap pancakes next week.
IHOP, one of our favourite local haunts, is celebrating its 58th birthday.
Of course, their buttermilk pancakes have remained a bit of a breakfast institution through for nearly six decades, so on Tuesday, July 12 IHOP is offering a 58-cent short stack of buttermilk pancakes.
Fun fact: The original cost of an IHOP short stack when the restaurant was founded in 1958 was 62 cents. So the promotional anniversary price is actually four cents less than what the pancakes cost in 1958, when brothers Al and Jerry Lapin and partners opened the first International House of Pancakes in Toluca Lake, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles.
Fun and food in Willougby
Speaking of eateries, my coworker Matthew (a Willoughby resident, himself) tells me a ma-and-pa pizza place is set to open soon in Willoughby Town Centre.
And on the subject of this little neighbourhood centric mall, they’re having a party this weekend that locals might wish to check out. It’s not just about acquainting people with all the mall has to offer – and that has changed a lot since last year’s event.
This Saturday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., boast free food samples, refreshments, and entertainment being served up. Plus, there’s a chance – through a passport program – to win up to $1,700 in Willoughby Town Centre gift cards and gift baskets. The passports can be picked up at mall stores.

Cue the fireworks!
They’re blown away by the outstanding showing they had from the judges at this year’s Los Angeles international wine competition.
Their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc was honoured with best in class and their 2013 Merlot was honoured with a gold
“Congrats to the other 31 Canadian wineries that also received medals,” said general manager Mike Raffan, who explained that the 2016 LA International Wine Competition has been setting the gold standard in fine wine awards for 77 years.
This year they received 3,010 wines from 995 wineries in 23 countries, and had a judging panel of nearly 100 highly acclaimed judges from across the globe.
