Wreckmaster holds tow truck training in Clearwater

Weekend session at On Call Services covers Towing Class 6/7: heavy duty applications

Clearwater’s On Call Services hosted a Wreckmaster Level 6/7 course for tow truck operators last weekend.

Close to 20 participants from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and the United States took part.

According to the Wreckmaster website, the Level 6/7 Heavy Duty Applications course is a demanding three-day program designed for those who want to join the elite of the towing and recovery profession.

Participants learn the skills to safely and efficiently manage the most complicated scenarios, recover the heaviest casualties and impress the most demanding teams on-scene.

The courses include advanced winching, compound layups and how mechanical advantage affects line load. Also taught is how block loading affects winching and vertical lifting, and how to use angles to calculate a truck’s lifting capacity for safer, more effective towing under difficult circumstances.

Participants practice challenging scene management and learn how to communicate effectively with incident commanders on the scene.
