They’re here!
The 2012 version of the popular Fall Fair Book is now available at the Salmon Arm Observer.
This year, the popular community event runs Friday Sept. 7 to Sunday, Sept. 9.
Area residents are encouraged to think about their entries in any of a number of categories.
Organizers say there are a number of exciting changes coming to the 2012 edition of the fair
New this year is a category called “extreme vegetables.”
As gardeners are busy in their vegetable gardens, they should start planning to enter their weird and wonderful results in the fair.
Vegetable convener, Hanne MacKay, is very excited about seeing the giant carrots, beets, tomatoes, kohlrabi, potatoes, bean pods, and zucchinis that will be entered in this section.
And there will so be many more cash prizes this year.
Fair organizers say many local businesses are being very generous to support more entries with cash and gift certificates.
Classes include arts and crafts, baking, canning, photography, spinning and weaving, flowers, crops, 4-H and much more. There are also new classes this year in cauliflowers, celery, ornamental or popping corn, gourds and herb collections.
There are excellent contests and activities for the younger set, including a one-page story, that may be accompanied by drawings, on what it feels like to go on any Shooting Star Amusements ride.
There are also lots of things for children to do and see on-site, including a new wobbly ball feature. Older “kids” will also enjoy trying to motor their way over water in large, clear plastic balls.
Check the fair website for all these new possibilities or look for the fair booklets, which are available at the Observer office.
Entry forms and fees, but not exhibits, must be received by Saturday, Aug. 25. Late entries will not be accepted.
All entry forms must be printed off the website at www.salmonarmfair.com or pick them up at the Salmon Arm branch of Okanagan Regional Library.
