More than 80 beautiful pieces of artwork, provided by Cariboo artists, were on display at the open house at the Parkside Art Gallery at 401 Cedar Ave. on June 30.
Artists took the initial theme of “gathering” and brought a collection of art that is wonderful to view and examine.
Twenty artists began their 36th Annual Fine Art Show and Sale on June 30 and the exhibition will run until Aug. 13.
The artists were given the theme of “gathering” to craft their works and the result is something both amazing to see, as well as incredibly thought provoking.
Many compositions are of people or animals travelling or meeting at a certain place, such as Carolyn Herperger with her acrylic beauty, Checking out the Train. The detail of the cowboys’ fabrics alongside the sweeping landscape is full of colour and depth.
Some painted animals gathering like Tom Godin with his Gathering piece. One of the largest pieces on display, Godin captured crows gathering on a fallen tree in haunting mosaic like detail.
Others took a much different route when exploring the theme of gathering.
One of the most eye-catching pieces on display is Gathering Wool by Olaug Jaenicke. Rather than using paint, Jaenicke made a collage from different magazines, books and artwork journals to create her interpretation of a woman gathering wool leftover from muskox.
Parkside Art Gallery president Patsy Granberg says she is very pleased with all the works the guild artists brought to the exhibition.
“There is such a great selection here. Every artist’s work is special and it’s great to see how people interpreted the theme of gathering.”
The variety of compositions is one of the things that Granberg says stands out the most about these showings.
“We have a bit of everything. We want the artists to get out of their usual comfort zone and try something new and exciting.”
There is a variety of different artwork styles in the show, including acrylic, watercolour, oil and collage.
Most of the artists made their artworks in acrylic, which Granberg says is understandable.
“Acrylic is definitely one of the easiest to work with and it is much more portable.”
One thing for certain is that the amount of talent on the wall is nearly indescribable. Each artist has brought a piece of work that is either thought provoking, emotional, haunting, or comforting.
