A new twist on annual FCA show at The Old School House Arts Centre

Exhibit in Qualicum Beach June 8-27; winners to be announced at the opening reception June 10

The Arrowsmith Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is ready for their annual summer juried show and sale. The show, which runs June 8-27 at the The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach, will officially open with a reception on June 10 at 7 p.m.

Unlike previous years, however, the results of the competition have not been announced. So while the winners know they’ve won something, they don’t know if they’ve won first, second or third place, or one of three awards of excellence.

“It adds a little bit more drama,” said chapter member Barbra McDonald.

The winners will be announced at the reception by a local dignitary who has not yet been named.

Of the 33 artists who entered a combined 82 pieces to the show, 28 artists and 46 artworks were accepted, said McDonald. The show was digitally juried by three senior FCA members in Vancouver over the last week of May.

According to a press release from the Arrowsmith chapter, the accepted pieces were chosen for their  “originality, creativity, skill and high quality.”

The Arrowsmith chapter of the FCA, which was formed in the 1990s, represents over 70 emerging to professional artists who have the common objective of developing high standards in their work.

Aside from the announcement of the winning members on June 10, McDonald said the members are trying to “encourage extra interest” in the show by hosting plein air painting demonstrations on June 13 from

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the parking lot outside of TOSH.

“There’ll be a lot of activity going on,” she said.
