A Night at the Savoy will take you back

Quadra Community Centre Listeners will be ushered into the evening of Dec. 15, 1944 when the great Glenn Miller died

“A Night at the Savoy” by Dock Side Drive, Victoria’s swing and show band, will take you back to 1944 and New York City’s iconic Savoy Ballroom to celebrate the music and performers of the swing era.

On Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Quadra Community Centre Listeners will be ushered into the evening of Dec. 15, 1944 when the great Glenn Miller died by “live” radio personality Barry Bowman played by Owen Searle.  Dock Side Drive will entertain you with the jazz, blues and show tunes of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Irving Berlin, the Andrews Sisters and more.  A dance floor will be provided for jumpin’ and jivin’ and a prize for the best-dressed ballroom patron will be awarded.

What a fantastic night of ‘big band’ style jazz and swing. Powerhouse vocals, riveting instrumentals, and a wonderful richness and classiness to the whole show. Our audience loved it so much they barely let the musicians leave the stage….”  – Deb Renz, General Manager, Sid Williams Theatre, Courtenay, BC
