Abbotsford author releases book on transitions

Shelaine Strom looks at navigating change, managing conflict

Abbotsford resident Shelaine Strom comes alongside people on the road of change with stories to inspire and challenge in a recently released book Changing Course: Stories to Navigate Career and Life Transitions

“We all experience transition and often find it a stressful and lonely place to be. I have put together a collection of real stories to remind us that we’re in this together,” Strom said. “Readers get to look over my shoulder as I teach a career transition course and see how others manage change.”

Dr. Roberta Neault, president of Life Strategies Ltd. and certified career development professional, says of the book, “Captivating from the introduction, Shelaine walks her talk . . . not setting herself apart from her clients’ stories but, instead, seeing her own story amongst theirs.  A masterful storyteller, Shelaine intersperses dialogue and rich description throughout the book’s chapters.”

Changing Course offers wisdom on navigating change, figuring out how personality shapes career choices, managing conflict with colleagues and family, interviewing with wisdom and honesty, leveraging values in decision-making, keeping healthy boundaries, and working with teams toward common goals through colorful dialogue with actual clients.

Strom taught locally in the Success@Work and Reshaping Your Future programs for nearly 20 years and helped hundreds of people get back on their feet.

She says her own transitions through career shifts and medical challenges give authenticity to her insight.

The book is available at Amazon.ca. Strom also posts regular blogs on shelainestrom.com.
