An Abbotsford dance student has been accepted into the School of Alberta Ballet’s summer program.

Rachel Weber will attend the intensive training program from July 28 to Aug. 15.

The 11-year-old chose this summer program over two others for which she auditioned and was accepted: Northwest Dance Intensive and the Boston Ballet.

Rachel, who turns 12 on March 21, has been studying ballet since she was four years old and has competed as a soloist since she was six.

She currently trains at Dynamic Dance in Abbotsford.

Rachel has achieved a mark of distinction on all her Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams.

She attended the Goh Ballet’s junior summer program in 2011, the senior program in 2012 and the Alberta Ballet’s junior program last year.

She also danced as a “party boy” in the 2011 Goh Ballet’s presentation of the Nutcracker and was a “party girl” and “small angel” in the 2012 production.

Rachel currently spends 7.5 out of her 13.5 hours of dance per week on ballet and also helps out in the four-year-old ballet class on Saturday mornings.
