Several Abbotsford residents have been invited to Toronto to pitch their business ideas and products to the panel of investors on the hit CBC show Dragons’ Den.

Molly Duignan, a producer on the show, said auditions held in Abbotsford on March 21 resulted in several people being selected for filming in Toronto, taking place April 21-27, May 11-17 and May 23-27.

She said almost 50 businesses were represented at the local audition, held at the Best Western Plus Regency Inn and Conference Centre.

Auditions have been held in several other locations across Canada.

Dragons’ Den gives aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of five wealthy Canadian business moguls and convince them to invest.

A portion of the businesses filmed will be featured on the 21 episodes of season six, which begins airing in the fall.

Duignan said last season, when auditions were held for the first time in Abbotsford, 266 businesses were selected for filming from the more than 3,000 people who applied across Canada. She said about 4,000 applications were received this year.

Duignan said more local people could be selected for filming, but the preliminary list consists of: Reg Wall and his WienerStick barbecue accessory; Gary Baars of TNT Agri-Services, which sells and delivers hay; Paul Martens with his odourless toilet called Ventex; Robert Stone of Mrtaxes.ca; and Daniel Litchy of D-light Solution.
