An Abbotsford man is appearing in a production at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, running from now until Sept. 14.

Ian Harrison takes on the role of Duncan in Crooked Teeth Theatre’s production of Macbeth, presented at the Culture Lab at the Cultch (1895 Venables St.) as part of the festival’s Dramatic Work Series.

The production, which is being described as a “dark, sexy, twisted version” of Macbeth, will be competing for the Artistic Risk Award.

Harrison was the first graduate of the theatre arts program at Vancouver City College, and he appeared in an episode of the first season of hit TV series The Beachcombers.

He then received a bachelor of arts in history, followed by teachers training, and landed his first teaching job in Abbotsford in 1975.

Harrison taught for 30 years, during which time he earned a master’s degree in counselling psychology, followed by running a private practice as a psychotherapist for children.

After his retirement, Harrison took up Olympic-style fencing and has represented Canada in international veteran matches.

In 2012, Harrison returned to acting, performing in a small music video, “If it Gets You Where You Wanna Go,” with musician Dallas Smith.

Since then, Harrison has done several productions on screen and stage, including a couple of commercials.
