Acclaimed duo performs on Quadra

Acclaimed as “one of the brightest stars in the elite world of piano duos,” the Bergmann Piano Duo have inspired audiences for more than two decades with their original music that straddles the best of classical and jazz.

The Vancouver Sun calls their recitals ‘electrifyingly rendered’ and they have touched and inspired audiences with their uniquely eclectic program for more than two decades.

Performing at the Quadra Community Centre on Saturday, March 5, this married couple, who play on two grand pianos, have the instincts of professional entertainers who love their music.  Their program draws from an extensive repertoire ranging from the baroque to the   contemporary and incorporates numerous arrangements and original compositions by Marcel Bergmann.

Committed to supporting the production of new repertoire, the duo has commissioned and premiered several works by Canadian composers as well.

In addition to their performing careers, they enjoy teaching, act as Directors at the Langley Community Music School and serve as lecturers and jury members of International competitions, and are Associate Artistic Directors of White Rock Concerts.

The duo studied with Arie Vardi at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hannover and with Jean-Eudes Vaillancourt at the Université de Montréal.

They received first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy, and were laureates of The 4th Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.

They performed extensively in Germany as members of the young artists’ roster of Yehudi Menuhin-Live Music Now.

They were members of the Calgary based group Land’s End Chamber Ensemble, recipients of the 2005 and 2006 Western Canadian Music Awards for Outstanding Classical Recording.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased on Quadra Island at Works of H’Art in Heriot Bay, Inspirations in Quathiaski Cove and in Campbell River, at the Music Plant.  Advance tickets are $17 or $20 at the door.

Performances are produced by the Quadra Island Cultural Committee, and are made possible with sponsorship and funding from Quadra Island Recreation Centre, BC Arts Council, the Government of Canada and the Strathcona Regional District.
