Agassiz’s local celebrity chef is cooking up something new.
MasterChef Canada alumna, Wall of Chefs winner and TV host Tammy Wood will soon be opening “Sossy’s Saloon,” an Old West saloon on Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz, and she’s looking for a crew.
Wood said via Facebook that the old-style saloon would serve elevated pub food and would feature Wild Game Wednesdays, showcasing her champion-class skills with a variety of game meats.
“I’ve been asked for a long time when am I going to open something,” she said in an Aug. 8 post. “Well, friends, the time has come, and I’m absolutely excited to put my little home town of Agassiz on the map!”

The feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive; the original post has been shared more than 50 times with 230-plus comments wishing her well, offering help and expressing interest in working alongside the chef.
Wood is looking for an aspiring cook to work alongside her and is actively recruiting staff. She also asked for taxidermied mounts for donation to help decorate the new saloon’s walls; each would have a plaque commemorating the harvest.
Wood said she is aiming to open the saloon in the middle of September.
