Gallery 223 in Nanaimo presents a combined feature exhibit: nature photographer Gittan Klemetsrud and Brian Buckrell, landscape painter, from June 23–29. The artists will be in attendance June 23–24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
Gallery 223 features the works of two artists, each with unique and exciting ways of catching and depicting west coast imagery. One is a photographer, and the other is one of Vancouver Island’s top plein air painters.
Brian Buckrell has won numerous awards for both his studio and plein air paintings, which are in collections across Canada, the US and Europe. Brian is honoured to having been elected into membership of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Landscape Artists International and the Society of Canadian Artists. He now paints full time.
“We can think of no better photography to set alongside Brian Buckrell’s landscape paintings than that of Gittan Klemetsrud,” says a Gallery 223 spokesperson. Klemetsrud came to Canada from Sweden in her late 20s and fell in love with the scenery of Vancouver Island. She took up photography and over time developed a keen sense for detail and how particular moments or scenes are captured.
Gallery 223 will be presenting these two artists, Gittan Klemetsrud and Brian Buckrell, for the week of June 23-29, 2012, with both artists in attendance for the opening of the show June 23–24. Their attendance coincides with the Nanaimo Artwalk. As an added feature, Buckrell will don his smock and provide a demonstration of his painting skills.
