The second annual Aldergrove Firefit Festival is set for this weekend, May 25-26, in downtown Aldergrove, starting with the Saturday Parade at 10 a.m.

The Parade will run along Fraser Highway, from 270 Street to 273 Street, and the highway will be closed to normal traffic for that hour. Detours will be marked for motorists.

Saturday’s opening ceremonies of the Pacific Regional FireFit event commence at 12:30 p.m. at Philip Jackman Park (32 Avenue and 271 Street). FireFit is an exciting, action-packed competition for firemen, with its events based on fire-fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. More than 100 fire fighters from across the west coast have signed on to compete.

There is also lots of free entertainment and a variety of food vendors for families on both days, plus a dance for adults on Saturday evening.

Sunday’s events include a morning Soap Box Derby for ages five to 13 years, a Crazy Wheels Race for adults, and more FireFit tasks to determine the Pacific Regional FireFit champion. The Soap Box Derby begins at 10 a.m. while the Crazy Wheels Race begins at noon. Both events will be held on 271 Street, between Fraser Highway and 32 Avenue, and this section of road will be closed to normal traffic during the competitions.

The Aldergrove FireFit Festival promotes businesses in downtown Aldergrove and the Aldergrove Fair Days in July. The parade was previously held in July as the start to the Aldergrove Fair Days, but has now been moved to the May FireFit Festival.
