Organizers say I am Woman, Hear Me Laff! is “a funny show for a serious cause”.

The popular comedy extravaganza returns for its third annual fundraiser for Cowichan Women Against Violence on Friday, March 10 at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre starting at 7:30 p.m.

This year’s lineup includes Laurie Elliott, Katie-Ellen Humphries, Christine Lippa, and Alicia Tobin, offering the crowd the chance to revel in all the humour that comes with being female. But the fundraiser also supports CWAV’s efforts to help women build the strength and confidence to follow their dreams and be successful.

“As an annual fundraiser, this event is extremely important to CWAV, not just for the funds it raises to support our work on behalf of women, children and families who’ve experienced violence,” says Jane Sterk, the group’s executive director, “but it also shows that women can be whatever they want and do whatever they have the desire and talent to do. That’s a powerful message and one that we hope the women who use our services come to understand about themselves.”

Elliott is a four-time Canadian Comedy Award-winner for Best Female Stand-up with stand-up credits which include many big Canadian comedy festivals plus others in Europe and even one in South Africa. Humphries will once again act as the night’s MC, bringing her experiences at festivals and on CBC Radio’s The Debaters to bear on the crowd. Tobin had the Cowichan audiences in stitches when she performed two years ago and Lippa, who many will recognize from Leave It to Cleavage and Sex & the Suburbs is likewise an experienced performer.

This performance contains adult material and situations and may not be suitable for all audiences.

Adult tickets are $28 each, with students getting in for $24. Get them online at cowichanpac.ca, or in person at the Cowichan Ticket Centre, or phone 250-748-7529.
