In the Gallery Centre 64

Up-and-coming artists from the Kimberley/Cranbrook area will be able to display their works and possibly win prizes when the annual Adjudicated Exhibition for Young Artists opens in the Gallery at Centre 64 on October 25, running until November 19.

A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery on Saturday, October 29, to which the public is invited.

Roller Derby 101 in November

Cinderella was right about one thing — a new pair of shoes can change your life. Bavarian Roller Derby Association presents Roller Derby 101. Learn to skate and join the fun. Information nights to meet the team and learn about roller derby are scheduled for:

• Friday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m., at the Ktunaxa Nation Council gym in Cranbrook;

• Sunday, Nov. 27, 5 p.m., at Resker Hall in Marysville;

• Monday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m.,  at the Ktunaxa Nation Council gym in Cranbrook.

Learn to skate, no experience necessary. Mondays/Fridays, Nov. 7-18, 7-9 p.m., and Mondays/Fridays, Dec. 5-16, 7-9 p.m.,  at the Ktunaxa Nation Council gym in Cranbrook.

The Dirtbag Festival is stoked to present this screening of the annual collection of the world’s best climbing and adventure films. Reel Rock 11 is the annual highlight of the international climbing community and features 5 epic adventure films from around the globe. Rock of Ages

Mount Baker Wild Theatre students present Rock of Ages (High School Edition), s a jukebox musical comedy with a host of familiar tunes by Steve Perry, Poison, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett and a host of others.  Jared Adams as Drew and Jelena Jensen as Sherrie are two kids with a dream of making it in LA in the ‘80s.  Alexander Gilmour is Dennis Dupree, the ex-rocker-turned-owner of the Bourbon Room; Preston Gramm is his faithful bartender Lonny; TJ Moulton is Stacee Jaxx, the once-on-top-of-the-world rocker on his way out, Maria Bolio is Justice, owner of the Venus Room dance club and Isabella Fiorentino is rock activist Anita Bath. Suzanne Coulter and Cedar Gross feature as Hilda and Franz Klinemann, a German mother and son duo who set out to repurpose Sunset Strip into a typically commercial wonderland.

It’s a fun show with a live band on stage! Come on out and even dress up in your favourite ‘80s rocker outfits. It’s a good time out with the friends and coworkers (make a staff party of it). Rock of Ages High School Edition plays November 24-26 at 7:30 and November 27 at 2:30. Tickets are $18/$15 for students and seniors. Symphonic Christmas

The Symphony of the Kootenays is offering two performances of its second concert of the 2016/17 season — “Stealing Back the Holidays” — set for Saturday, Dec. 3 (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday, Dec. 4 (3 p.m.), both at the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook.  The program includes:  Winter from Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (featuring SOTK Associate Concertmaster Jeremy vanDieman); Christmas favourites featuring Nelson singer Allison Girvan; and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” by Dr. Seuss and Albert Hague, featuring Michael Jones and choir.
