Allison Crowe and Band bring an eclectic mix of music and a myriad of influences to Ladysmith for a concert Thursday, Oct. 27.

Crowe is excited about the opportunity to introduce songs from her latest CD, Heirs + Grievances, to a Canadian audience for the first time, said her manager, Adrian du Plessis.

“The CD is the creative culmination of everything that’s been brought into this band,” he said. “It’s also flavored by 10 years of touring in Europe.”

The band features Crowe on vocals, piano, fiddle, guitar and bodhran, Lin on cello and vocals, Sarah White on guitar, mandolin and vocals, and Dave Baird on bass.

While Crowe was raised in Nanaimo, Baird hails from Vancouver Island. Lin was born in Germany and raised on Saltspring Island and White grew up in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

“That gives the band a real east coast west coast feel,” said du Plessis, owner of the band’s label, Rubenesque Records. “The new material reflects that blend.”

Crowe said she’s looking forward to getting back to family and friends on Vancouver Island.

“I love playing Ladysmith,” Crowe said. The audiences there are always warm and kind. “I’m so excited to see everyone in Ladysmith and Chemainus. They’re beautiful, magical places.”

Critics like Jeff Pitcher, artistic director of Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador, lauds Crowe as one of those rising artists that fits into any culture, any community because she is an incredible talent.

The concert takes place  at 7:30 p.m. at First United Church at 232 High St.

Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and can be purchased at Salamander Books, In the Beantime Cafe or online at www.allisoncrowe.com.
