Vernon’s Gallery Vertigo was a sea of dapper gents and glamorous gals as they perused some fabulous fakes –– art that is.
All were gathered for the artist-run gallery’s annual fundraiser, Almost Famous, which this year featured a Gin and Sin theme. As per in the past, local artists donated works –– paintings, sculpture, drawings, textiles –– inspired by the masters.
However, this year, the classical and rennaisance periods were skipped for more modern art, circa 1900-1950. Picasso, Cezanne and even Dick and Jane were just some of the inspirations for bid items, which were presided over by actress and auctioneer Christine Pilgrim in fine, French accent.
Patrons also nibbled on appetizers de jour –– stuffed celery canapés among the fare –– and sipped on shaken, not stirred, martinis.
Gallery Vertigo director Heidi Maddess said she was pleased with the results, with totals estimated at around $1,000 from the art and tickets sales to go towards Vertigo’s program and exhibitions.
“I was very happy with it. Everyone came dressed and ready to have a good time, which is the most important thing, along with building community engagement,” she said.
