There’s no shortage of places to go see acoustic folk music in Revelstoke. And if you’re looking for a night of hard rock, the Regent frequently hosts bands. But if popular and classical music is your thing, well there’s not much there.
That’s why Robyn Abear decided to organize An Enchanted Evening, where local singers will be performing popular music accompanied by local pianists at the Minto Manor on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
“I organized it to give an opportunity for local performers to perform in a classy setting,” she said. “There’s lots of coffee houses and places in town where people sing folk and country-western but I was looking for a different venue where more popular music and musical theatre could be done and Minto Manor is such an elegant setting I just thought it would be a nice, enchanted evening.”
The singers will consist of several familiar voices, including Abear, youngster Hailey Christie-Hoyle, Blaine Mack, John Pearce and Sharon Shook. They will be playing with either a back-up CD for music or one of Lida Carey, Rosemarie Klein, Cathy Cameron-Suchy and Leslie Opatril on piano.
The performances will include Pearce singing Some Enchanted Evening; Mack and Shook doing a duet; and Shook singing Climb Every Mountain.
At intermission, Edna Mae Johnson will provide coffee, tea and finger food.
All proceeds from the soiree will go the Revelstoke Arts Council as a way of saying thank you for the support the community gets from the council.
“It’s a payback,” said Abear. “Instead of always having our hand out, to do something to say thank you.”
An Enchanted Evening takes place at the Minto Manor on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at Talisman Fibre & Trading Co.
