Local author Angie Abdou has won an Independent Publishing Award (IPPY) for her book, The Canterbury Trail.
The book, which many believe is set in a fictional Fernie, won a gold medal in the Canada-West best regional fiction category at the 2012 IPPY awards.
The book was also a finalist for mountain and wilderness literature at the 2011 Banff mountain book competition.
Angie’s first novel, The Bone Cage (2007), was defended by NHL player and literature-enthusiast Georges Laraque in the 2011 Canada Reads debates. The novel was also included on Canadian Literature magazine’s ‘All-Time Top Ten List of Best Canadian Sports Literature’ and was number one on the CBC Book Club’s Top 10 Sports Books.
