The Mex Pub is sponsoring another 1st Tuesday Fundraiser tonight (May 3) at 7:30 p.m. Don’t miss the upcoming benefit concert featuring special guest Anela Kahiamoe.
Admission for the 1st Tuesday Fundraiser event is by donation, and Anela has chosen YANA to receive the proceeds for this event. Food donations for the food bank are also much appreciated.
Anela is well known for his exceptional musical talent and welcoming Hawaiian hospitality. He’s a seasoned professional musician who has toured internationally and provided entertainment in Hawaii’s tourism resorts, cruise ships, as well as festivals and concert venues.
He’s opened for many well known artists and bands including Fleetwood Mac, Huey Lewis and the News, Elvin Bishop and Kool & the Gang, and has shared performances with Jerry Lee Lewis, Mike Reno from Loverboy and Johnny Rivers.
Anela plays all styles of music for all kinds of audiences, so his performances include favourite covers, original songs, and even traditional Hawaiian slack key. YANA is a local charity that provides funding for Comox Valley families whose children need access to medical care outside of the Comox Valley. Their programs provide access to emergency funding and accommodations.
Their priority is to help reduce the stress of families. In addition to providing accommodation, YANA provides a daily, weekly or monthly allotment of funds to help with costs of travel, food, parking and unexpected expenses. YANA also provides St. Joseph’s Hospital with funds to make available to Comox Valley families who have a child or an expecting mother who requires emergency transfer to another hospital. YANA has supported over 1,000 families since it started in 1986, and works to raise $250,000 a year to operate its programs. This is largely done with the support of community members and volunteers.
The evening starts off at 7:30 with an opening set by event organizers and hosts Judy and Bruce Wing, along with violinist Blaine Dunaway. Door prizes will be drawn following the performance. For more information about YANA programs visit yanacomoxvalley.com
