Couldn’t make it to fall fashion week in Paris, Milan or New York? Let the couture, with all the trimmings, come to you when some local female-owned downtown Vernon businesses host a new fashion event at Cheek to Cheek dance studio, Saturday, Nov. 12.
Entitled Anticipation, the fashion show is the brainchild of Sprouted Fig restaurant owner Angie Tumlinson, who approached Lorna Robb from Cheek to Cheek and Dianne Rowland of Betty Lou Boutique to find a way to showcase their downtown businesses.
Nola Neilson, owner of Creatabls Clothing, joined in the venture and ideas started brewing.
“There are so many amazing shops and women business owners that it makes sense to start a fashion show downtown in the heart of Vernon,” said Robb. “These businesses really know how to support one another and understand the importance of encouraging fun in our community.”
“The fashion show is to encourage women to anticipate the upcoming holiday season,” added Tumlinson. “Many women are so busy preparing for the holidays they don’t slow down enough enjoy it. I am one of those women. Anticipation is designed to take some time to laugh, see some beautiful fashions, eat some amazing food and taste some delicious spirits with some girlfriends.”
Cheek to Cheek is currently working with the models to have beautiful movement and do a dance demonstration, while Betty Lou Boutique plans to feature some of its new cocktail dresses and gowns.
Creatabls will show the lighter side of party wear and its new line of foundations from Bra Heaven.
The evening’s emcee will be Val Trevis from Nixon Wenger.
In addition, Okanagan Spirits has created a special cocktail called Anticipation and will be offering tastings from its line of liquors.
Planet Bee will also feature its mead (honey wine) for tasting, and The Fig Catering will showcase an hors d’oeuvres bar with desserts created by chef Lisa Taylor.
“I would love to see this grow and involve more shops next year. This is the start of something to anticipate each year,” said Tumlinson.
The event takes place at Cheek to Cheek dance studio, 3401A-30th Ave., Saturday, Nov. 12 with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and can be purchased prior to the event at The Sprouted Fig, Cheek to Cheek, Betty Lou Boutique or Creatabls.
