Back by popular demand, the Vernon Public Art Gallery is once again hosting an Antiques and Art Appraisal Day. The event takes place on Thursday with Vernon’s Peter Blundell of Blundell Art and Antique Appraisals, and Anthony Westbridge of Westbridge Fine Art and Auction House in Vancouver.
Westbridge will give verbal opinions on market value on original art with the possibility of taking some paintings back to Vancouver for inclusion in one of his monthly live and online auctions.
One of Canada’s leading art experts, Westbridge is a longtime publisher of Collector’s Dictionary of Canadian Artists at Auction, and the Canadian Art Sales Index, published for the last 30 years.
Westbridge assesses a wide variety of art and is particularly interested in Canadian art and sculpture.
Westbridge is looking forward to visiting the Okanagan with hopes of finding a rare, unique, or highly sought after piece of art. Some of the Westbridge’s books will also be available for purchase at the event.
Blundell will also perform verbal opinions of market value on antiques and collectibles, with some exceptions. He cannot appraise jewelry, coins, stamps, guns, and wristwatches. However, pocket watches and swords may be brought in. Individuals who wish to have large furniture pieces assessed are asked to bring in a portion of the piece, such as a drawer along with a photograph, and the item’s measurements. (Items thought to be over 400 years old cannot be assessed in this format.)
Fifteen minute assessments will be scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the gallery. Cost is $40 (members) and $50 (non-members). All registrants must pre-register and pay in advance. Partial proceeds benefit exhibitions and programming at the VPAG Auditors are welcome at no additional charge.
